The 34th "National Mourning Day" has been observed through the mourning and discussion meeting organized by Bangabandhu Parishad, New Zealand branch at Auckland, New Zealand on 15th August 2009, like previous years (since 1999). Many of the genuine follower and admirer of the Father of the Bangalee nation, founder of Bangladesh, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, living in New Zealand were present and the 34th "National Mourning Day" was observed with due solemnity, dignity and deep grief. They paid deep homage and tributes to the memory, contribution, sacrifice of great leader Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman who was supreme ledger of our long liberation struggle and nicely led it to the creation of an independent country, Bangladesh, for Bangalee nation in 1971 and all others who were killed in that black night.

The quality gathering was presided over by senior most and prominent Bangabandhu lover who has witnessed Bangabandhu very closely for many years, Mr. Abdul Latif (retired Director, IWTA and father of recently died, our friend, Dr. Nasir) and conducted by Dr. Engr. Nazrul Islam, President of Bangabandhu Parishad New Zealand branch.

The key note speaker, Dr. M A Rashid (of Massey University, Auckland) presented a very nice, informative, resourceful documentary presentation on ?BANGABANDHU EBONG SHADHINOTA UTTOR BANGLADESH? (Bangabandhu and situation of Bangladesh just after liberation war). Presentation of Dr. Rashid was highly praised by all and thanked him for his great efforts and research.

As a mark of profound respect to the great leader they observed one minute silence and special prayer in all religious belief for seeking divine blessings of the Almighty Allah for the eternal peace of the soul of Bangabandhu and his family and all others civil, police and army personals who were martyred on that black day of Bangladesh and also during our great liberation war. They also prayed for the utmost peace, progress and prosperity of our motherland, Bangladesh under present government led by the capable daughter of Bangabandhu, Sheikh Hasina so that Bangabandhu?s core dream, ?SONAR BANGLA? can be established.

Other than the key note speaker, Dr. M A Rashid, following speakers spoken at that meeting and took part in discussions. They were Dr. Taposh Barua, Engr. Shafiqur Rahman Anu, Dr. Hasinur Rahman (PhD), Mrs. Nazneen Akhtar, Engr. Sharif Ahmed, Mrs. Nurun Nahar Lucky, Dr. Abul Kashem, well-known singer and ex-Lecturer of Notre dame College Mr. L Shekhar Gomes, Agri Ziaul Karim Kishore, Mrs. Mahbuba Shafiq.

The speakers recalled some golden memory of Bangabandhu and remembered the contributions of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to our history and the pivotal role he played in the shaping of our destiny.


All the speakers demanded for executing the court verdict of the condemned assassins without any further delay. They too call upon the present government to find and expose the real culprits and the main conspiracy behind the killing of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Speakers also condemned previous Jamat - BNP JOT government for twisting the truth in text books and in documents about Bangabandhu's political struggle towards the creation of Bangladesh
 

Some important and rare documentary on Bangabandhu was displayed and a very sensitive poetry, dedicated to Bangabandhu, was recited by Dr Taposh Barua. Mr. Abdul Latif expressed his gratitude and thanks to Bangabandhu Parishad New Zealand branch for showing much respect and giving honour to him.


Dr. Engr. Nazrul Islam, President of Bangabandhu Parishad New Zealand branch said that Bangabandhu Parishad is an esteemed ideological research type organisation working in New Zealand since 1999 and any genuine follower and admirer of Bangabandhu may apply for the membership of Bangabandhu Parishad and door is always open to them.


Mrs Akhter Jahan, Dr. Ershad Ali (JP), Md. Khorsed Alam, Mrs Aysha Akhtar Khanam, Mr. Mohammad Mridha, Mrs. Hasina Momtaz, Mr. Bazlur Rahman, Mr. S Mokbul Karim, Mrs. Shuvra Gomes, Dr. Md. Shafiqul Alam and some other distinguished personal were present at that meeting
