We are launching South Asian Community awards in partnership with Navtarang Radio & Newspaper to offer excellence awards to individuals and corporations set up by the Australian people with South Asian heritage in the various fields such as performing arts, small business and community service. This activity is designed to bring various communities together the countries of heritage origin are India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan. The Fijian community of Indian heritage will be included in the mix.
The presentation evening program scheduled for 26 January 2007 or thereabout will offer the opportunity of experiencing various cultures through variety of traditional dance & music and cuisines from the South Asian region.
The major categories of the awards are:
Performing Arts - (12 awards); Community Services - (2 awards) and Small Business with less than 10 employees - (10 awards)
Selection Criteria:
The selection criteria will be fixed for every category of awards prior to the opening of entries to the public. Invitations will be sent to groups / businesses and through the open invitations in the Ethnic print media.
Five panelists of will be appointed for each of the three major categories. One panelist for every category will be selected from each of the five South Asian Communities: India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Fiji. Five short listed entries in each category will be passed on to these panelists who will give scores. The average of the five scores will determine the winner.
The staff and associates of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Navtarang and associated entities are not eligible to participate.
