KUET ALUMNI REUNION-2018 IN SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA

 

The KUET alumni get together/eid-reunion was held in Sydney on 7th July 2018. There were about 100 alumni and their families from Sydney and Canberra who participated in the program.  At the beginning of the program, KUET alumni and Australian Chartered Professional Engineer Dr AHM Kamruzzaman (FIEAust CPEng NER RPEQ) delivered a professional presentation on “Challenges, contributions and ways forward for future engineers”. Dr Kamruzzaman has addressed various challenges that Bangladeshi engineers are facing to get into the professional job market and postgraduate education in Australia. Of the many challenges, he emphasized that Bangladeshi engineers should prepare to get professional engineering registration status (e.g. CPEng/NER) from the Engineers Australia (EA), as different states and territory of Australia are in the process of making a legislation for the registration of engineers.  He has also addressed that a joint collaboration between IEB-Australia chapter and EA is vital for Bangladeshi engineers for various reasons; such as getting professional engineering registration, attending on a range of continuing professional development training (e.g. short courses, seminar, conferences etc.) and becoming a full signatory under Washington accord. At the end of the presentation, Dr Zaman has reported notable KUET graduates’ contributions in the field of professional engineering, research and business development both in Australia and international platforms. These graduates are Engr. Assoc Prof Dr Ataur Rahman, Engr. Dr Rafiqul Islam, Engr. Dr Asadul Haque, Engr. Dr Zahid Hoque, Engr. Dr AHM Kamruzzaman, Engr. Assoc Prof  Dr Sheikh Faiz Uddin Ahmed, Engr. Dr Kabir Patoary, Engr. Dr Masud Rahman, Engr. Dr Tofazzal Hossain, Engr. Dr Mohsin Ali, Engr. Khalequezzaman Choudhury, Engr. Dr Harun Meer, Engr. Murad Mandal and Engr. Sazzadul Arif.

The program was organised by a few KUET alumni from the 99 batch in particular Engr Imran, Engr. Pinnu, Engr Sobuz and Engr Mehedi, and was recognised as the biggest reunion in Australia.  Special guests Engr M A Sobhan (Managing director of Design, Planning and Management Consultants Limited, Bangladesh) and Engr M A Matin (IEB-Australia representative) also attended in the program. Mr. Sobhan appreciates the KUET graduates’ dedication of work in Bangladesh and abroad. He also handed over certificates of recognition to the notable contributory KUETians attended in the program.

Following the professional presentation, Dr Rafiqul Islam and Dr Zahid Hoque president and secretary respectively, of the KUET Alumni Association Asia Pacific (KUETAAAP) reported various activities of the association (such as scholarship given to KUET students, helping sick KUETians, fund raising for disaster in Bangladesh etc.) and called for Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the new executive committee. After the lunch, the program ended with lots of fun activities, music and entertainment.
